It’s amazing how quickly someone else’s mistake can become the topic of conversation. We often don’t intend to cause harm, but it’s surprisingly easy to repeat a story that wasn’t ours to tell or to dwell on another person’s failure instead of their potential.

The truth is we’re all flawed. Dealing with our own shortcomings is one thing, but how we choose to deal with the shortcomings of others is a good indicator of whether our default setting is grace or bitterness.

I’ve known people on both sides of that equation—and I’ve been on both sides too. What I’ve discovered is that I want to be around people who look for the best in someone who’s messed up. And the people who want to gossip about it? Well… if I’m honest, there are times I want to be around them too. 

Both can make me feel included, but only one leaves me feeling good.

Proverbs tells us that love covers an offense. It doesn’t ignore sin or pretend wrong never happened, but it refuses to keep exposing someone else’s failures. Grace values restoration over being right, and healing over having another story to tell.

Jesus has shown us that kind of grace. Knowing everything about us, He still chose the cross. As recipients of that mercy, we have the opportunity to offer it to others through our words and our actions.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the grace You’ve shown me. Help me to guard my words and choose love over gossip. Give me a heart that seeks restoration instead of division, and let my conversations reflect the mercy You have so freely given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

James 1:14 – “But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.”

Temptation doesn’t discriminate. No one is immune.
Sometimes it comes in obvious forms—addiction, lust, rage. Other times, it’s more subtle—gossip, self-righteousness, gluttony, the kind of sins we’re tempted to justify or ignore.

But the process is the same: temptation begins with desire.
And when we follow that desire—when we dwell on it, feed it, act on it—it gives birth to sin. A single thought becomes a choice, and then a pattern. What once felt like curiosity can become a slow corrosion of the soul.

So how do we resist?
If we could rescue ourselves from sin, why are we still so broken? Why do we keep going back to the very things we swore we’d never touch again?

Because we can’t fix what’s broken in us.
Not fully. Not without help.
No amount of science or supplements or self-discipline can repair what James calls “our own desire.” The problem goes deeper than behaviour. It’s spiritual.

The truth is the chains of addiction are more than physical. Spiritual warfare plays out not just in the visible world but in the unseen realm—where temptation isn’t just psychological, it’s personal. And its grip is deadly.

But so is grace.
The cross doesn’t just forgive sin—it breaks its power.

Remember, God’s not afraid of your struggle. He’s already stepped into it – and won’t leave your side.
